OUR ODE TO THE ROAD

ROOM DESCRIPTION

Salted Roots' newest accommodation, our Yellow Door Cabin is a converted 1970s retro bus, with a floating A-frame loft above. This unit was crafted as an ode to our time living on the road - as a funky and elevated tiny home for the budget and adventure traveler in mind. It is complete with a kitchenette, reading nook, master king bedroom upstairs in the vaulted A-frame loft, second king bedroom inside the original bus, and detached modern bathroom. With more intimate interior spaces than our other units, the Yellow Door cabin hosts our largest outdoor covered deck, and a grill for spending more time outdoors.

ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

How far is Salted Roots Cabins from downtown Seward? Do we need a car to get around?
Salted Roots is 3 miles south of downtown, located on Beach Drive of Lowell Point. Although many people arrive to Seward by bus or train, we highly recommend having a car to stay at Salted Roots (plus more freedom to tour around Alaska).
How far is Seward from Anchorage International Airport?
Seward is located 2.5 hours south of Anchorage. Enjoy the drive down one of the most scenic highways in the US.
Can we book a one-night stay?
A two-night minimum is required when booking on our website. If you notice any single-night gaps on the reservation page, we are happy to override our two night minimum to get you booked for a one night stay. Just send us an email with your full name, phone number, and number of guests that will be joining you. We can send you an email from our reservation back office with a link to pay and confirm your stay. We look forward to hosting you!
What are the check-in and checkout times?
Check in is available at 4PM on the day of your arrival, checkout time is 11AM on the day of your departure.
Are the cabins pet-friendly?
We do allow dogs on a case by case basis. Our pet-fee is $30 per night. Your pet needs to be friendly around other dogs and children, and cannot be left alone in the cabin. Unfortunately, not all dogs can stay here due to shedding, cleanliness, and a variety of other concerns. Please reach out if you are interested in bringing your fur-friend. Please bring your own towel and waste disposal to clean up over your pet. Maximum one dog per cabin.
Could you tell us more about your kitchen amenities?
All five cabins have complete kitchens. This includes a propane oven and stovetop, a refrigerator and freezer (with ice cube trays), pots and pans, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, knives, mixing bowls, cooking utensils, a toaster, along with some olive oil and simple spices. For us, coffee is a priority in the mornings, so of course we have an electric kettle, a French press, and coffee mugs. We proudly serve Alaskan-roasted coffee beans from Chugach Mountain Coffee Roasters in handmade ceramic mugs created by local Alaskan artists. If you find a coffee mug you love – let us know. They’re available for purchase! We encourage a slow pace out at the property, so we do not have microwaves at this time.
Does Salted Roots provide firewood?
We usually have rounds of wood stacked near the sauna*. These are free for guest use. Please remember, this wood in not always dry and will need to be split with the axe provided. Looking for an easier route? You can purchase dry, split wood from Safeway in Seward or Miller’s Landing down the street. *Sauna wood must be cut shorter than 14″.
Are the architectual plans available for purchase?
Matt and KellyAnn were the creative entities behind the cabin designs. They teamed up with a local builder, Ed Hartman of Custom Creations, and worked with both an architectural firm as well as a structural engineering firm to develop plans for these cabins. After a long debate, we are selling the rights to our architectural designs for $1500. The A-frame is just under 1,000 square feet. The first floor dimensions are 22 x 40 feet (including our 6 foot covered, exterior deck). Please let us know if you are interested. You can purchase them via our website availability. Go to ‘Something Extra’ and select the Architectural Plans. We are happy to send over the invoice with a PDF of the plans and to answer any more questions you may have.
