SUSTAINABILITY

minimizing impact without sacrificing comfort

For Atticus' Future

Besides being new business owners, we are new parents. We are committed to minimizing our impact so Atticus can grow up and enjoy Salted Roots and the glaciers within Kenai Fjords National Park.

WE CAN'T DO IT ALONE

Please Recycle

We have recycling bins in each of our cabins. Please help us recycle aluminum, cardboard, glass, and Type 1 plastic. All recyclables should be rinsed before separating.

On-site Compost

Besides separating your recyclables, why not help us grow our soil for our garden beds by separating organic waste! We have small trash bins in our units, and encourage guests to minimize their garbage output.

Heat Pump Heating

We are transitioning to heat pump heating in all of our cabins. IF you use the pellet stoves, please reuse your pellet bags as alternate trash bags during your stay. For the outdoor sauna and firepit, repurpose your cardboard and kindling.

ECO Products

Our soaps are bought and refilled in bulk to minimize single use plastics. All of our products are plant-based; we run on a septic and sit very close to salmon fisheries, so please be mindful what you put down the drain.

Solar Powered

Rustic Roots is solar powered (you can see the panels near the Blush cabin) and received Green Leader award from TripAdvisor.

Gardens

Summer guests are welcome to pick and enjoy any of the greens we grow locally on-site at Salted Roots. Please be mindful that the harvest is intended to be shared by everyone.

LED Lighting

We have energy efficient LED lighting in all of our cabins. In the summer, we get daylight nearly 20 hours a day. Do you really need your bedroom light on?

Get Creative

While in Alaska, we hope our guests can be inspired to take care of our planet: its resources, its people, and its beauty. Thank you for staying with us – We take our commitment to our employees, environment, and small community seriously.

We're here to start the revolution.
