FAQ

Salted Roots Basecamp is approximately 12 minutes driving from Ted Stevens International Airport or a few minutes walk from the Alaska Railroad Depot. It is the perfect spot for the beginning or tail end of your Alaskan adventure. Both Uber and taxis are available at the airport and train depot. Located in the heart of downtown, we have free on-site parking and nearly everything in the area is accessible by foot, including the Alaska Railroad depot heading to Talkeetna and Seward, our favorite restaurants, and the Tony Knowles coastal trail.

Located at the gateway of Kenai Fjords National Park, our properties are on Beach Drive in the quaint and quiet Lowell Point community. We are within walking distance from the Tonsina trailhead, but less than 10 minutes driving from activities in the town: 3 miles from downtown Seward’s best restaurants, and about 4 miles from the Alaska Railroad depot and Seward Harbor, where most of the fishing and boat tours into the national park depart. Rustic Roots Seward is located two lots south of our original Salted Roots Seward, with a trail connecting the two properties.

Seward is located 2.5 hours south of Anchorage International Airport, via one of the most scenic highways in the US, the Seward Highway is maintained year-round between Anchorage and Seward. Although you may choose to arrive in Seward by the scenic Alaska Railroad or cruise ship in the summer months, we HIGHLY recommend renting a car from Hertz/Thrifty or TURO during your stay at Salted Roots Seward. This gives you more freedom to explore the town on your schedule. Unfortunately, Ubers are not available in Seward and taxis are not reliable transportation for worry-free vacation.

We recognize that many visits to the city are brief—whether for a quick trip or a convenient overnight before or after a long flight—so we currently do not require a minimum night stay in Anchorage.

A two-night minimum is required when booking on our website. If you notice any single-night gaps on the reservation page, the system will override our two-night minimum to get you booked, as long as it fits in with our pre-existing reservation calendar.

For any property buyout or large group reservation, we do require a 3-night minimum. We look forward to hosting you!

Check-in is available at 4 pm on the day of your arrival, and check-out time is 11 AM on the day of your departure. Our check-in process is contactless with a secure keypad, so no need to worry if you are arriving late after a long flight or an adventure-filled day. You will receive all the information you need for a smooth check-in via the guest portal a few days before your scheduled arrival.

Our properties are built around common spaces for guests to gather. Because of this, and to ensure the enjoyment of our other overnight guests, we do require buyouts for any large gathering beyond the guests accounted for in reservation. Please visit the Gather section of our website to inquire more.

In Anchorage, we only allow one pet per unit on the Ground Floor. This includes our studios and family dens. We do not allow pets in Uptown’s flats or lofts. Given the urban, hotel-style layout of the units, we want to ensure the peace of other guests in the building.

In Seward, we do allow one dog per stand-alone cabin on a case-by-case basis. Pets are not allowed in our Greenhouse Suites at Rustic Roots, because of the shared walls and hotel-style layout.

Our pet fee is $60. We ask that you bring your own towel and waste disposal to clean up after your pet, and require that the dog is friendly around other dogs and children, remains off furniture, and is not left alone in the rental. Unfortunately, not all pets are approved due to a variety of concerns. Please reach out directly if you are interested in bringing your fur-friend.

Because of our remote location and sensitive septic system in Seward, we do not provide public laundry service. There is a paid public laundromat just 5 minutes walking down the street at Miller’s Landing.

Our accommodations do not include standard turn-down services as part of the regular offering. However, we are happy to provide this service upon request for an additional fee. Please contact us in advance to arrange for a turn-down service during your stay.

If you have any other questions or special requests, feel free to reach out!

In Anchorage, we are swiftly working towards converting one of our first-floor units to ADA-accessible. The units on the second floor are accessible by elevator.

In Seward, we offer one ADA-approved unit at Rustic Roots. The Blush Seaside Cabin accommodates up to two overnight guests with a convenient parking spot, a lit path to the step-free guest entrance, a guest entrance wider than 32”, step-free bathroom access with a shower chair, and fixed shower and toilet grab bars. Please feel welcome to contact us directly for more details or photos.

For us, coffee is a priority, and we proudly provide Alaskan-roasted coffee beans from Chugach Mountain Coffee Roasters, served handmade ceramic mugs created by local Alaskan artists. If you find a coffee mug you love – let us know. They’re available for purchase. Below is what each location provides:

All of our downtown units have full kitchens, complete with a stovetop, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher. Our one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats also have an oven. We provide pots and pans, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, knives, cooking utensils, olive oil, and simple spices for all your stay-at-home cooking needs.

All of our stand alone cabins have full kitchens, complete with a stovetop and oven, refrigerator, and freezer. Because of the slower pace in Seward, we do not provide dishwashers or microwaves. We provide pots and pans, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, knives, cooking utensils, olive oil, and simple spices for all your stay-at-home cooking needs.

Please note: At Rustic Roots, our seaside cabins have kitchenettes with two-burner stoves, microwaves, and mini-fridges. These units do not have ovens. Our four greenhouse suites only offer a coffee bar, microwave, and mini-fridge within each unit, and share a community kitchen with all the essentials.

We usually have firewood stacked around Salted and Rustic Roots Properties. This firewood is free for guest use and can be found at the communal fire pit on the back patio of the Greenhouse, at the beachfront of the Rustic Roots Seaside Cabins, and at the firepit area for Salted Roots guests. Please remember, that this wood is not always dry and may need to be split with the axes or wood splitters provided.

Looking for an easier route? You can purchase dry, split wood from Safeway in Seward or Miller’s Landing down the street.

We are committed to supporting our community and charitable causes. While we cannot accommodate every donation request, we do consider contributions to Kenai Peninsula Borough organizations that align with our values. Please contact us at mgmt@saltedrootsalaska.com with details about your cause, and we will review each request on a case-by-case basis.

We love working with the media and sharing our venue’s story! If you’re interested in visiting, covering an event, or collaborating in the media, please reach out to us at stay@saltedrootsalaska.com. We’re happy to discuss your needs and provide any information, photos, or support you may need to make your coverage a success. We look forward to connecting!

We do occasionally offer a media trade program. If you’re interested in promoting our accommodations through media coverage (e.g., blog posts, social media, or articles) in exchange for a stay, please contact us directly to discuss potential partnerships. We review all media inquiries on a case-by-case basis and will provide guidelines and terms for any agreed-upon trade. Please note, that Salted Roots currently only accepts media trades with accounts equal to or larger than our Salted Roots Alaska Instagram following, and does not accept any media stays during our high season. Off-season and single-night gaps are preferred.

We provide free on-site parking on the east side of the building. We just ask that you don’t park in the smaller lot in front of the red door entrance to the coffee shop, and instead find any of the spots on the side of the building towards the elevator. If you will be venturing around downtown, mostly everything is accessible by foot. If you decide to drive for convenience, please note that street parking is metered. Downtown Anchorage on-street parking costs $1.25 per hour during the week from 9 am to 6 pm. Parking is free on weekends and after 6 pm on weekdays, and during public holidays. Payment can be made via coin, credit card, or mobile apps like PayByPhone and ParkMobile.

Each cabin has an assigned parking space, with detailed directions in the online check-in form. There is room to double park for two cars per cabin reservation. Please note that our parking lots are small, and the street is narrow. Please do not park on Beach Drive, and keep it open for our neighbors and emergency vehicles to pass through.
